Social Interdependence & Air Travel

A study by Georgia Tech’s School of Civil & Environmental Engineering to help us better understand the interconnectedness of individuals' transportation behavior.

Our Goal

This study will help us to better understand the connection between people’s SOCIAL NETWORK, and how and where and why they TRAVEL.

? Questions

How long will this survey take me?
  • 5 – 10 minutes – maybe less if you are fast!

Is it anonymous?
  • YES. Your Facebook ID and those of your friends are converted into an anonymous encryption code before they are recorded in our database. There is no way of recovering your identity or your friends’ identities from the data we collect.

What kind of information do we ask for?
  • First, we want to know about YOUR TRAVEL IN THE PAST YEAR – so we will ask for some information about the trips you’ve taken.
  • Second, we WANT TO KNOW ABOUT YOU – so we will ask you some general demographic information.
  • Lastly, a Facebook app will collect some INFORMATION FROM YOUR FRIENDS LIST – like, your friends’ current cities, their hometowns, their networks, and their ages. This will help us connect the dots and look for patterns in how people travel relative to the networks they belong to.

Important

The app only collects information that YOUR FRIENDS HAVE ALREADY MADE AVAILABLE through their Facebook privacy settings. Again, all of this information is COLLECTED ANONYMOUSLY – we don’t record their names or any other information that could be used to identify them.
